A vigorous, suckering, multistem deciduous shrub with an upright, spreading habit of growth. Single, fragrant, lavendar purple blooms in late spring. Blooms emerge from distinctive purple flower buds. Features dense, heart-shaped dark green foliage throughout the season turning to a yellow colour in fall. Great for hedges and windbreaks. An old-fashioned homestead favourite. Deer do not particularly care for this plant.
