A vigorous, hardy, multistem deciduous shrub with an upright, spreading habit of growth. Single, strongly scented, deep violet blooms in late spring. Blooms emerge from distinctive maroon flower buds. Early bloomer. Features rounded, oval, green foliage throughout the season turning to a purple color in fall. Allow room for air movement. Limited suckering. Deer do not particularly care for this plant.
