Tall, erect, bushy, clump forming plant with elegant fern-like dark green foliage. Large showy plume-like spikes of small cream colored flowers appear in early to mid summer and are good for cuttting and drying. Deer do not particularly care for this plant

Growing Conditions: 

  • Plant in a full sun to full shade location. Prefers some shade
  • Prefers fertile, organic rich soils
  • Moist - do not let dry out
  • Medium growth rate


  • Easy to grow. Plants may be cut back in summer if they look untidy

Edible/Herbal/Medicinal Uses:

Roots can be used to make tea which can be used for a variety of ailments including gastrointestinal problems and internal bleeding. Tea may also be used topically for swollen feet and rheumatic joints. Stems and young leaves may be cooked and eaten - some caution advised
